The Bottom Line

    Meet Josh Barillas: Implementation Manager

"I believe we’re making a positive impact in the lives of children in each of the districts we partner with. As someone who experienced hardships and inequities growing up, I know that things should be better. That’s why I want to do what I can to solve problems such as food insecurity and inequities in allocation of resources for our children, and working at Allovue allows me to use my skills to do just that."

Implementation Manager Josh Barillas brings his experience doing data analysis and integration for education management and government organizations to his role as an Implementation Manager at Allovue. He makes sure our district partners’ data merge seamlessly with Allovue’s budgeting software, learning the intricacies of each district’s system so that our tools align to their unique needs.

    Describe life before Allovue.

I worked in the nonprofit sector, helping to build and implement education management reports and analyses, usually by integrating data from different platforms. Prior to that, I worked for a couple of government organizations focused on developing and implementing innovative solutions for multimodal transportation. It’s not the path I saw as someone with an Economics and Statistics background, but it has allowed me to do meaningful work on issues that impact many.

    What’s your role at Allovue?

I am the Data and Implementation Manager, which means I ensure that we integrate districts’ financial data seamlessly and accurately with our software. I also support internal and external analysis projects and contribute to product development in whatever ways I can.

What skills and experience serve you best in this role?

I’m a problem-solver and I love learning, two things that help in any implementation. We deal with so many different Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which requires learning how each of them works so I can help guide every district to a solution that minimizes demands on their time while maximizing the value they get from our software.

How do you see Allovue’s impact?

I bought into Allovue’s mission and vision the first time I logged into our software. Even with no background in accounting or education finance, I immediately understood what the numbers I saw meant and what questions to ask to gain clarity. I truly believe that our software provides districts with the tools needed to help their staff make intentional daily budget and spending decisions in support of their students.

I believe we’re making a positive impact in the lives of children in each of the districts we partner with. As someone who experienced hardships and inequities growing up, I know that things should be better. That’s why I want to do what I can to solve problems such as food insecurity and inequities in allocation of resources for our children, and working at Allovue allows me to use my skills to do just that.

    Favorite TV show?

Without a doubt, Arrested Development. It’s a show where I’ll notice new jokes each time I rewatch it every couple of years. There are dozens of us. Dozens!

What’s the weirdest thing your pet does?

My dog Sully, a hound-mix, barks like a seal when he meets new dogs or people. It makes for a unique experience every time he visits a dog park.
